Aerial view on 23 June 1997 of the former open-cast uranium mine at Puy de l'ge, near La Crouzille in Limousin, during redevelopment. The residues have been covered by a layer of waste rock to prevent them from being dispersed by erosion. Studies show that one metre of a clay covering prevents practically all of the radon migration. Nature has taken over again. Part of the site has been turned back to agriculture and forestry, and another part has been developed as a lake.
