Effective dose

The "effective dose" is a biological dose. Widely used in radiation protection, it measures the exposure of an individual to radiation. It takes into account the sensitivity of the various organs and tissues. This is the dose to be considered when estimating the risk from exposure to radioactivity. It is expressed in sieverts or millisieverts. This is a dose "whole body", not to be confused with the equivalent dose specific to a given organ or tissue.
